The Chanelar Flamenco Project- Overview


Chanelar is a kaló word –Kaló is the language of the Spanish gypsies- derived from the Sanscrit Jñana, that means: to know, to understand.

The Chanelar Flamenco Project is a program of Dances of the World Society dedicated to saving important aspects of Flamenco that are in danger of extinction:

  1. Preserving Flamenco as a Culture and an Oral Tradition by documenting it in its natural environment.

  2. Preserving aspects of Flamenco as a Perfoming Art that are in danger of extinction by producing and presenting performances that honor these aspects of Flamenco.
